Portuguese Sweets, Veganised traditional Portuguese dishes

Chocolate Salame

I used to make this a lot when I was little, with my sisters, from my mum’s cake recipes book that she hand wrote herself. Eating it really brings back memories. This vegan recipe is delicious, all the taste and loooads of chocolate! Is it a cake though? It doesn’t matter, it is a sweet treat!

Time: 3h approx.

Type: dessert/cake

Difficulty: 1.5 pans

Serves: a few yummy slices (depends how big you want them 😊)

What you need

For the salame:

300g dark chocolate

100ml plant milk

200g vegan ‘maria’ type biscuits, or rich tea, crushed into crumbs (some bigger, some small, it doesn’t have to be even)

A little Icing sugar to decorate (optional)

Utensils:

Large mixing bowl

Mixing spoon

1 small pan to melt the chocolate

Something to crush the biscuits (I use a bag and a rolling pin)

Kitchen foil

Knife

Sieve

Directions:

Melt the chocolate with the plant milk in low heat, stirring frequently;

Meanwhile, crush the biscuits and pour into the mixing bowl;

Once melted, pour the chocolate over the biscuits and mix well;

When all is well incorporated, pour the mix into a large sheet of kitchen foil and roll onto a cylinder, covering all ends;

Place in the fridge until it settles, I’d say at least 2h;

Remove kitchen foil and sprinkle with icing sugar using a sieve;

Cut into slices to serve. It will keep for a few days, in or out of the fridge (but you probably don’t need to worry about this as it’ll be gone before you know it).
