Chocolate and orange tart

Oh my days, this tart…what a delicious treat! For chocolate lovers like myself, this is actually heaven. It is quite easy to make and sets fairly quickly too. This would make the perfect dessert when you have guests around and want to impress them with some very good vegan treats.

Time: 4h and 30 min approx.

Type: dessert

Difficulty: 2 pans

Makes: about 10 slices

What you need:

crust: 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup icing sugar, 1/4 cup vegetable spread, a sprinkle of salt and 1 tbsp water

filling: 250g vegan dark chocolate (70% cacao or more) 1/2 can coconut milk (about 200ml), 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, juice from half an orange, zest from 1 orange, 1.5 tbsp maple syrup

Directions:

In a large bowl, mix dry ingredients for the crust and add softened vegetable spread and water – mix well using your hands until well incorporated and holding together;

Place in a floured surface and roll out into a circle, so it covers a round tin base and a little of the sides;

Place in the tin and squish dough evenly around the tin – place it in the fridge for about 1h;

Then, bake the crust in a pre-heated oven at 180C for about 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly golden brown – remove and let it cool;

Heat coconut milk in a pan and bring it to a boil;

Remove from heat and add all the remaining ingredients for the filling – mix until all chocolate is completely melted;

Pour filling over the tart crust evenly – place it in the fridge to set for at least 3h – then, is ready to serve! (decorations are optional)
